What drives us to do what we do?
SF started out as a result of a dream shared by four people. From there the organisation has grown to encompass many more users, at all levels. Some of our first project work was delivered on the Llangollen canal in Wales. We had a dream then to own our own canal boat. Well that dream has come true and we now have Achieving Together.
Shortly after our work on the barges started we thought that we would like to take groups of young people sailing. So we made it happen. Each year we take over 50 young people on a sailing experience on chartered yachts. Indeed two years ago our lead sailing volunteer bought, and is now managing his own sailing school in Hull.
We value our volunteers; they are the hub of the wheel that keeps SF rolling along, year in year out. So we thought that it might be nice to have all of their efforts recognised by a national standard. We applied for and received on first application the status of Investor in People. We have just been through our renewal process and again we remain an Investor in People organisation. The conclusion of the report stated; “SF is without a doubt a true Investor in People and a real asset to the young people and partner agencies with whom they work”
Health and safety is vital to us so we thought about applying to become Activity Licensed. Again, we applied and on first application we received the accreditation. Last year, we were assessed again and guess what? We reached the standard again. This accreditation tells us, and those we work with that all the policies we have concerning the delivery of our activities are to nationally approved standards
