Achieving Together

What is Achieving Together?

The wide beam canal boat Achieving Together is a brand new (2004) facility for SERIOUS FUN. The boat is 57 feet long and 10 and a half-feet wide. The boat accommodates a maximum of 12 people and has access via ramps and a permanent lifting platform for our  users who have mobility needs. The boat can be steered by remote control; having a dedicated remote control steering system, that is linked to a hydraulic steering ram. The boat also has two low level permanent bunks, as well as ten other fixed bunk facilities.

As part of the bid we facilitate a group of young people named ‘the steering group’ to make decisions about the barge in order to make it young people friendly. These young people help us to plan, monitor and facilitate our residentials and trips.

The majority of funding for the build of the boat came from The National Lottery Community Fund. Further funding was provided by Leeds City Council CIT area Bramley Armley and Wortley and the following charities; The Charles and Elsie Sykes Trust, Henry Smiths Charity, The Headley Foundation and The Percy Bilton Trust.
